Industrial Barbells FAQ
Where do I order Industrial Barbells on your website?
Answer
What is an "Industrial Piercing"?
Basically any piercing in which one piece of jewelry is worn in 2 piercing holes. Most commonly, this is done with 2 upper ear piercings which are pierced at the same session.
How do you measure for a new barbell?
Assuming you are looking to downsize the barbell you were pierced with (only do this after FULLY HEALING), our best recommendation would be to see your piercer and have them determine the proper length for you. If you for some reason can't do that, please have a friend measure it for you using the handy diagram below. And always err on the side of "larger" binding up your piercing with a too-small barbell is just begging for disaster. More questions? Check out the

What's the standard length barbell that piercers will use for an industrial piercing?
Unfortunately there is no standard piercing size for industrials that I'm aware of - most piercers will have an assortment available to use and will choose one depending on the shape of your ear and the placement of the piercing.
But seriously, I just need the standard normal length barbell that piercers use!!
Like we said, there is no "standard length" sorry about that!
My industrial piercing isn't healed, can I change out barbells?
You're really asking for trouble and further complications with healing. The only time I would recommend anyone to change out a piece of jewelry during the healing process is if the jewelry itself is causing a problem - eg: too small, too short, or a material allergy. In this case, please see your local piercer so they can do this quickly and nearly painlessly.
I'm stingy and/or under age, can't I just go to the mall and have them pierce two places on my upper ear with their piercing guns and then stretch it up and wear an industrial barbell?
OOOOOUCH! The manufacturers of the piercing guns used in the mall finally admit that they are not designed for upper ear and/or cartilage piercings - you're basically shoving a blunt object through
the cartilage - and then trying to heal it with improper jewelry - those "piercing studs" are usually way too short to allow swelling in a cartilage piercing. Plus they get caught on hair etc. YUCK! Besides, assuming you're able to successfully heal both of them, chances are they're placed wrong for a straight barbell to be worn, and even THEN you'll have to stretch them up to at least 16g. Stretching cartilage piercings can be done, but its not easy and not a lot of fun. So, just go see your local friendly body piercer and save yourself a major headache.
Why do industrial retainers need to be worn in fully healed piercings ONLY? How long does it take before an industrial is considered to be "fully healed"?
Its because they're acrylic and the way the ends are constructed can sometimes irritate a healing piercing. Most people consider a piercing fully healed when there's absolutely no pain with the piercing, no discharges of blood, lymph etc., no swelling of any kind. Unfortunately sometimes this can take 6 months or more with an industrial piercing, but your ear will thank you for waiting!
